KABUL: Anosha Mohammadi, a journalist and women’s rights activist in Kabul, has been mysteriously killed, local sources report. The death was confirmed by her former colleague Saif-ur-Rahman Ayyar on Facebook, who described Mohammadi as a justice-seeking, kind, and dedicated advocate for women’s rights. He called her death deeply regrettable and tragic. The circumstances and motives behind her killing remain unclear. Taliban security authorities in Kabul have not commented on the incident. The murder has sparked widespread concern among journalists and women’s rights activists. Some sources have suggested Taliban involvement, though no official reports or confirmations have been released. During the Taliban’s four-year rule, violence against women, particularly female journalists, has increased significantly. Many women journalists have been forced to leave their jobs due to threats and harassment, and media activities by women face severe restrictions. Mohammadi’s killing continues a pattern of attacks on women and female journalists in Kabul and other Afghan cities, highlighting the fragile security situation and ongoing challenges to women’s rights in the country. The incident has drawn strong reactions from human rights groups and the Afghan media community, raising serious questions about the safety of female journalists.
