SWITZERLAND: A local train derailed in southern Switzerland, leaving five people injured, authorities said. The incident occurred amid high avalanche warnings in the Alpine region. Police reported that the derailment happened on Monday near Goppenstein, and preliminary indications suggest that a small avalanche may have struck the tracks shortly before the train passed. Official investigations into the exact cause of the accident are underway. Of the five injured, one has been hospitalized for treatment, officials said. The derailment follows several deadly avalanches in European mountain areas in recent days. In one incident, three skiers were killed at the Val-d’Isère ski resort in France.
