Taliban signals support for Iran amid potential U.S. strike

KABUL: Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid in an interview with Tehran Pashto Radio, said the group does not support war, but if the United States were to carry out a potential attack on Iran, the Taliban would stand by Iran “to the extent of their ability.” Mujahid emphasized that the Taliban prioritize regional stability and do not seek conflict. However, he added that if circumstances escalate toward war, the group would demonstrate political and moral alignment with Iran. He also claimed that Iran emerged “victorious” during the recent 12-day clashes with Israel, maintaining its stance against foreign interference. Some analysts, however, argue that the Taliban are not in a position to take a clear side in international or regional disputes. They note that Afghanistan continues to face economic and political challenges after decades of conflict and needs to remain removed from regional crises. Concerns over regional security are rising as tensions between Iran and the U.S. remain high, with any potential military action having the potential to trigger broader instability in the region.
