KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that a potential regime change in Iran could be “the best thing that could happen.” He mentioned that there are “people who can be replaced,” but did not provide further details. Trump’s remarks come as the United States has sent a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, increasing its military presence in the region. During a military event at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he referred to past conflicts and noted that the U.S. has lost many lives and is prepared to continue military actions. Meanwhile, Iran has announced its readiness to talk about curbing its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, but has rejected any linkage to missile issues. U.S. officials have also stated that in the absence of an agreement, an attack on Iran’s nuclear sites is possible. The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, along with accompanying escort ships, fighter jets, and surveillance aircraft, is set to join the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East. The actions occur as U.S. and Iranian negotiators are set to meet in Geneva to revive nuclear talks, with representatives from Oman serving as mediators. Trump emphasized that in the event of military action, the aim would be “everything that remains,” warning that a failure to reach an agreement could lead to a wider war.
