KABUL: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, the acting permanent representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, welcomed the recent resolution passed by the UN Security Council regarding the extension of sanctions on the Taliban, describing it as a sign of the continued attention of the international community to the crisis in Afghanistan. In a post on X, he stated that the extension of the monitoring team’s mandate is not merely a technical measure but reflects the global community’s commitment to combating terrorism, safeguarding women’s fundamental rights, and progressing towards the establishment of an inclusive political structure. The resolution emphasizes that Afghan territory should not become a base for threats or attacks against other countries. It also calls on the Taliban to take practical steps to rein in extremist groups. Faiq added that achieving lasting peace will not be possible without the full and meaningful participation of women and the establishment of a system based on the will of all ethnic groups and political movements, a topic that remains a focal point for international organizations.
