KABUL: The UK representative at the United Nations has urged the Taliban to take meaningful steps regarding international commitments and the safety of Afghan girls and women. The delegation expressed support for extending the mission of the Taliban sanctions committee during a UN Security Council meeting. The UK delegation emphasized that the Taliban must take decisive actions in the fight against terrorism. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s representative, Asim Iftikhar, stated that the Taliban should choose between isolation and engagement. He stressed that terrorist groups should not use Afghan territory. On the other hand, the Russian representative stated that the international community should continue engaging with the Taliban. The 1988 Afghan sanctions regime imposes restrictions on the assets, travel, and other related matters of individuals, groups, and entities associated with the Taliban that are deemed a threat to peace, security, and stability in Afghanistan.
