KABUL: On the occasion of the International Day of Girls and Women in Science, the European Union has expressed appreciation for Afghan women and girls in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The EU delegation in Afghanistan announced today that women should be at the heart of science. The EU emphasized that the active role of women, from nurses to researchers, is vital for a healthy and prosperous Afghanistan and supports universal education. It is noteworthy that February 11 was designated as the “International Day of Women and Girls in Science” by the UN General Assembly in 2015. Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, girls and women still do not have the right to education beyond the sixth grade.
