KABUL: The World Food Program (WFP) reports that due to the escalation of poverty and hunger in Afghanistan, approximately five million women and children are confronting acute malnutrition. The organization announced on Tuesday that across Afghanistan, 3.7 million children and 1.2 million women suffer from acute malnutrition, highlighting the worsening situation of livelihoods and nutrition for families in the country. The WFP indicated that the significant increase in malnutrition cases has led to more children visiting clinics supported by the organization in Kabul for treatment each day. The United Nations has emphasized that, given the rising needs, the WFP continues to provide lifesaving nutritional assistance and is striving to ensure that mothers and children have access to essential and immediate care. Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned that without support and urgent intervention, the nutritional status of women and children in Afghanistan could deteriorate further, leading to long-term consequences for their health and development.
