KABUL: The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has canceled the licenses of approximately 1,600 associations, including many women’s empowerment and commercial groups. The ministry has not provided any clear reason for this action. Among the list of canceled associations, at least 20 are specifically for women, including: -Women’s Social Association of Dehdadi Khona in Balkh

  • Women’s Social Association of Qarya Yaka Tot in Balkh
  • Women’s Social Association of Businesswomen in Herat
  • Social Association of Innovator Women in Kabul
  • Women Empowerment Foundation in Kabul
  • Afghan Women’s Growth Civil Society in Kabul
  • Afghan Women Coalition in Kabul
  • Organization for Women’s Studies and Research in Afghanistan in Kabul

The Taliban has previously imposed severe restrictions on women’s activities, and businesswomen have faced significant challenges when trying to renew their operational licenses. This action raises concerns about the diminishing space for women’s participation and civil society organizations in Afghanistan.
