MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Syrian counterpart, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, on Wednesday evening and reiterated Russia’s support for the Syrian government’s efforts to maintain stability and sovereignty. Putin noted that relations between the two countries are expanding and said the Syrian President’s visit provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors. He emphasized that Russia fully supports the integrity and territorial sovereignty of Syria. In his remarks to Putin, President Al-Sharaa acknowledged that Russia has a positive stance on preserving Syria’s unity and expressed hope that Moscow’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity would continue. The Syrian President also highlighted the numerous shared issues and files between Damascus and Moscow, indicating the potential for further cooperation in these areas.
