KABUL: The Iranian Embassy in Kabul has said that Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, met with Alireza Bigdeli, the Iranian ambassador to Afghanistan. In a post shared on X today, the embassy noted that the meeting addressed the activities of UNAMA in Afghanistan and the constructive cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this context. The Iranian Embassy did not provide further details about the content of the discussions. The UN Deputy Secretary-General, who recently visited Afghanistan, also held meetings with the foreign and interior ministers of the Taliban. Reports indicate that her discussions with Taliban officials primarily focused on the Doha Process, counter-narcotics efforts, support for the private sector, and humanitarian assistance. However, it remains unclear whether issues related to human rights, including women’s rights to education and work, were raised during these meetings.
