ABU DHABI: The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the start of trilateral negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States in Abu Dhabi. This is the first public and direct negotiation between Moscow and Kyiv regarding a plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the nearly four-year war. The negotiations are set to last for two days and are part of efforts to find political solutions and alleviate the humanitarian suffering caused by the war. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE foreign minister, expressed hope that these meetings would lead to an end to the four-year crisis and reduce the damage. Ukrainian and Russian negotiators also met with U.S. officials for vital discussions. This meeting is the first close interaction between representatives of the two countries since the onset of the invasion four years ago. The talks come as Ukraine faces severe darkness and cold due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, power plants, and heating centers. Despite the negotiations, the Kremlin has not softened its hardline stance regarding territorial claims and continues to seize more parts of the Donbas region with heavy human casualties. Moscow officials have warned that if diplomacy fails, they will resort to force for further territorial gains.
