KABUL; The Taliban’s Supreme Court has confirmed to the BBC that Khadija Ahmadzada, a female taekwondo coach who was detained in Herat on the orders of the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, has been released. The statement indicates that she was sentenced to 13 days in prison by a local court, and her term was completed today. Khadija Ahmadzada was arrested on January 10 in the Jibril district of Herat. The Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice recently announced her detention and subsequent referral to court. Ministry spokesperson Saif al-Islam Khaybar stated to the BBC, without providing further details, that Ahmadzada violated Sharia regulations. He also mentioned that several other individuals were detained and would be presented before the courts.
