Pakistan and UK envoys hold talks on Afghanistan’s security situation

KABUL: Mohammad Sadiq and Richard Lindsay, the special representatives of Pakistan and the UK for Afghanistan, met on Tuesday to discuss the security situation in the region. The meeting focused particularly on the urgent challenge of cross-border terrorist attacks. The Pakistani representative noted that they also discussed broader security concerns in the region and emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation to enhance regional stability. Pakistani officials assert that terrorist groups are conducting attacks from Afghan soil against their country, and stopping these attacks is a precondition for normalizing relations with the Taliban. However, the Taliban have denied this claim, stating that they do not permit the use of Afghan territory against any country. Security and border tensions between the two countries have led to repeated clashes over the past four years. Following the most recent conflict, the Afghanistan-Pakistan border has remained closed for over three months, halting trade and movement between the two nations.
