KABUL: The Taliban’s Ministry of Finance has announced that it has suspended the salaries of female employees who have been ordered to stay at home, informing them that their monthly salary of 5,000 Afghanis has been halted. Sources indicate that the Taliban intends to formally remove the female employees from the ministry’s structure and replace them with male family members. Some female employees have reported that after the implementation of work restrictions for women, they were receiving a monthly salary of 5,000 Afghanis. However, they have now been informed that they will only receive their salary for the month of “Jadi” (the Afghan month) and that payments will cease thereafter. According to sources, around 200 female employees are registered in the policy department of the Ministry of Finance, most of whom are breadwinners of their families. The suspension of this modest salary is expected to lead these women into severe economic hardship, making it difficult for them to meet their families’ basic needs. Sources have said that the Taliban aims to eliminate all organizational roles related to female employees, replacing them with male workers. Notably, since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, they have imposed extensive restrictions on women’s work, education, and social presence.
