HERAT: Local sources report that taxi drivers in Herat are refusing to transport women and girls. According to the sources, women and girls are waiting for hours at taxi stands, but drivers, even with empty taxis, are unwilling to take them. The situation has worsened in recent days, significantly complicating daily commutes for many women. Some women have expressed that they are forced to walk long distances to accomplish essential tasks. Access to transportation for women has sharply declined since the Taliban banned the operation of three-wheeled vehicles. Reports indicate that the Taliban had previously warned drivers not to carry women who do not adhere to their mandated hijab. In addition, officials from the “Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” department have recently removed women from cars and taxis for not wearing a Chador-Namaz, effectively obstructing their mobility.
