KABUL: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced that Russia and Ukraine have reached a local ceasefire agreement in the vicinity of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The ceasefire aims to facilitate the repair of the plant’s electricity supply lines. In a statement released by the IAEA, it was highlighted that these electricity lines, damaged due to military activities on January 2, must be restored in the coming days. IAEA Director Rafael Grossi noted that this marks the fourth temporary ceasefire initiated by the agency, demonstrating IAEA’s continued important role in the situation. The Zaporizhzhia facility is the largest electricity producer in Europe and has been under the control of Russian forces since March 2022.
