KABUL: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has reported that currently, 17 million people in Afghanistan require urgent food assistance. The organization’s statement highlights deepening hunger crises in severely affected regions of Afghanistan. As a response, they have increased food aid in Bamyan, Kunar, and Herat provinces. Findings from IRC’s recent survey indicate that 95% of participants are experiencing reduced food consumption, signaling insufficient access to food. Furthermore, 95% of respondents reported facing life challenges, borrowing money from others, and delaying medical check-ups. The IRC’s findings also show that less than six months old, 93% of children and 84% of children under two are receiving breastfeeding. Considering this, it is estimated that by 2026, 1.2 million pregnant or breastfeeding women will face severe malnutrition.
