WAZIRISTAN: Maulana Sultan, a senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, was killed yesterday in a roadside explosion in South Waziristan. He succumbed to his injuries after being transferred to a hospital in Dara Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Reports indicate that he was a representative of the Federation of Schools in Pakistan and was targeted near a school. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion. The incident has drawn strong reactions from Fazal ur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan. Previously, he had urged the Pakistani government to engage in negotiations with the Taliban of Afghanistan to mitigate conflicts and attacks by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
