KABUL: A new civil women’s movement named “Afghan Women’s Courage Movement” has announced its presence through an official statement, stating that it was formed in response to the ongoing and systematic violations of women’s rights in Afghanistan, to defend their fundamental rights. According to the statement, the movement is based on the principles of human dignity, justice, equality, and freedom, describing the current situation of Afghan women as “concerning and threatening for future generations.” It highlights that Afghan women have been deprived of basic rights such as education, work, freedom of expression, social presence, and the right to make decisions about their lives for over four years. The Movement identifies itself as an independent, civil, and justice-seeking entity, emphasizing that complete equality between women and men is an undeniable principle in accordance with international human rights documents. The movement deems women’s rights—especially their rights to education, health, security, property, and political and social participation—as “inalienable” and calls for their practical implementation. The statement further condemns any form of violence and discrimination against women and urges relevant authorities to hold perpetrators accountable. The movement believes that women should play an active and equal role in determining their destiny and the future of the country. The leadership of the Movement has committed to peacefully, sustainably, and consciously fighting for the realization of women’s rights, elevating the voices of Afghan women at national and international levels, and collaborating with human rights organizations and justice-seeking individuals. The movement calls on the Afghan people and the international community to stand alongside Afghan women and provide practical support for their equality, freedom, and human dignity.
