KABUL: Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front, stated that Afghanistan is facing its most difficult and darkest situation yet, emphasizing that the only way to overcome the current crisis is through a unified struggle and resistance from the people and politicians against the Taliban. During a memorial ceremony for General Ikramuddin Sarai, the former police commander of Afghanistan who was assassinated in Tehran, he remarked, “Four years have provided enough opportunity for each of us to strive for our country’s freedom. The only way to pass this dark crisis is collective struggle and resistance.” Massoud warned that the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan could lead to an increase in organized terrorism outside the country. He urged Iranian authorities to prevent the recurrence of targeted assassinations of anti-Taliban figures. Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, leader of the National Movement Party of Afghanistan, also spoke at the event, asserting that the Taliban only understands the language of force and will not last long. He stressed the importance of uniting political and military factions to create a unified voice against the Taliban. Additionally, Ahmad Zia Massoud, former deputy to the presidency, called for the formation of an internal and international consensus against the Taliban, stating that without both domestic and international pressure, the Taliban regime will not be overthrown. General Ikramuddin Sarai and another former military figure from Afghanistan were assassinated last week on Vali Asr Street in Tehran. Iranian officials have announced that investigations into this incident have begun.
