WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the country is prepared to impose new sanctions on Russia’s energy sector. According to Reuters, these sanctions will come into effect following the purchases of oil by NATO member countries. In recent weeks, the U.S. has increased pressure on NATO allies to tighten energy sanctions against Russia in an effort to help bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine. Trump has faced repeated criticism for not taking any concrete actions after the deadlines set for Russia. Meanwhile, Turkey is now considered the third-largest buyer of Russian oil, following China and India, with other NATO members like Hungary and Slovakia also participating in the purchase of Russian oil.
