ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Sadiq Khan, Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, is set to travel to Kabul early next week to convey Islamabad’s warning regarding Taliban’s support for Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), media reported. Pakistan alleges that the TTP is utilizing safe havens within Afghanistan and receiving funds, training, and weapons from India. The newspaper “The News” reported that Islamabad has presented evidence of this to the Taliban. Sources indicate that during his visit, Khan will once again address the issue of Taliban assistance to the TTP and the provision of safe havens for its members. He has previously traveled to Kabul multiple times to urge the Taliban to cease their support for this group. The Pakistan Army has reported that during operations from September 10 to 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19 soldiers and at least 45 TTP members were killed, labeling the group as “India’s proxy force.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the Taliban must choose between supporting terrorists or standing alongside Pakistan, warning that his country will not tolerate any ambiguity in this regard. He also claimed that Afghan citizens have participated in recent attacks, and undocumented migrants will soon be expelled from Pakistan. A recent report from the UN Security Council’s sanctions monitoring team has corroborated Pakistan’s claims, stating that the Taliban provides logistical, operational, and financial support to the TTP. According to reports, the Taliban have not prevented TTP from using Afghan territory, contrary to their earlier promises. Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, has made three trips to Kabul in recent months to discuss TTP activities with Taliban officials. Mohammad Sadiq Khan, who previously participated in Doha negotiations, now has a renewed mission in this regard and will head to Kabul after returning from the United Arab Emirates.
