KABUL: The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO) has expressed deep concern regarding the recent restrictions imposed by the Taliban on media and journalists over the past week. In a statement released on Sunday, the organization highlighted the alarming threat of death against journalists by the Taliban. The statement emphasized the ban on broadcasting images on the national television under Taliban administration in Balkh province, as well as the complete restriction on visual media activities in Panjshir province. Additionally, content creators on platforms like YouTube in Kandahar province have also been prohibited from producing content. AMSO stressed that these recent actions by the Taliban deal a severe blow to media and the free flow of information in the country. Over the past four years, the Taliban have imposed extensive restrictions on media and journalists, significantly curtailing freedom of expression. Previously, Mohammad Omar Makhles, the Taliban’s police chief in Paktia, stated that the Taliban intended to kill some journalists, but they managed to escape.
