KABUL: Sources have confirmed that Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. Special Representative for Afghan Peace, has arrived in Kabul today. According to sources, he is expected to meet with Taliban officials during this visit. Neither the U.S. State Department nor the Taliban have commented on the details or purpose of the trip. Khalilzad previously visited Kabul on March 20 of this year, leading a U.S. delegation. That visit resulted in the release of an American citizen held captive by the Taliban. This new visit comes at a time when Mahmoud Shah Habibi, a dual U.S.-Afghan citizen, remains in Taliban custody, and Washington is seeking his release.
