KABUL: Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated that efforts to end gender-based violence and amplify women’s voices are not only matters of justice but also factors of national strength. During a meeting with several women leaders in Papua New Guinea on Sunday, Guterres emphasized that communities that uphold the rights of all individuals are stronger and more accountable. He praised the courage and resilience of women in Papua New Guinea and reiterated that the United Nations will take any necessary actions to support them. Papua New Guinea faces cultural and structural challenges that limit opportunities for women and girls. Gender-based violence, discrimination in political and economic participation, and restricted access to education and resources are common issues in the country.
