Memorial and fundraising campaign for Kunar victims held in the Netherlands

AMSTERDAM: A gathering was held in the Netherlands, last night organized by Rashid Khan’s “Khan Foundation” and the “Peyvastoon Society” to commemorate the victims of the recent earthquake in Kunar and to raise funds for relief efforts. Dozens of charitable and humanitarian Afghan individuals attended the event. The program began at the Dunya Hall in The Hague with a recitation of the Quran and prayers led by religious scholar Qari Azizul Haq. In his remarks, he emphasized that it is the collective responsibility of Afghan expatriates to stand alongside their countrymen during times of crisis and to participate in charitable endeavors. Following this, Sadiq Rashtini, a member of the advisory council of the Peyvastoon Society, spoke about the tragedy of the Kunar earthquake, stating that it is a significant tragedy for the local people, and it is essential for Afghan expatriates to provide comprehensive support. He noted that the collaborative fundraising efforts by the Khan Foundation and the Peyvastoon Society demonstrate that Afghans are united for social solidarity and welfare. The Afghan ambassador to the Netherlands, Mohammad Asif Rahimi, also addressed the gathering, mentioning that the widespread support for the earthquake victims in Kunar proves that unity and solidarity among Afghans have increased more than ever. Rashid Khan, representing the Khan Foundation, also spoke to the attendees online, stating that approximately €87,000 has been raised so far, and this effort is ongoing. Additionally, Osman Zafar, a member of the Khan Foundation’s leadership in the Netherlands, indicated that the overall goal for the fundraising is set at €250,000 to support emergency relief, food, medicine, shelter, and the rebuilding of homes. The event concluded with prayers and calls for further increasing support for the victims.
