WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military targeted a drug-smuggling ship in international waters of the Caribbean on Tuesday. Trump stated that the ship belonged to the Tren de Aragua gang and that the attack resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals, while U.S. soldiers were unharmed . He emphasized that this action serves as a warning to those intending to smuggle drugs into the United States. Video footage of the targeted ship and its subsequent fire has been released. Previously, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that the ship was linked to a terrorist group. The U.S. government has classified several organized crime syndicates as terrorist organizations, including Tren de Aragua from Venezuela and the Sinaloa Cartel from Mexico. Tensions between the United States and Venezuela have escalated in recent weeks, with increased U.S. naval presence near Venezuelan waters. Additionally, the reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has been raised to $50 million. Trump indicated that the Tren de Aragua gang operates under Maduro’s control.
