KABUL: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has allocated $5 million from the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund to support victims of the recent earthquake in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan. This funding aims to provide temporary shelter, food supplies, and medical assistance to the affected families. OCHA stated that this budget is specifically designated to meet the urgent needs of households impacted by the recent earthquake. Despite challenges in accessing some affected areas, humanitarian teams are making serious efforts to rescue survivors and deliver aid. The UN has expressed concern about landslides caused by the earthquake, water contamination, and the lack of adequate shelter, stating that these issues will further exacerbate the humanitarian crisis. International partners have pledged support, with countries like China and India offering assistance, while the Taliban administration has requested additional aid to address extensive damages. The global response underscores the importance of timely and coordinated efforts in providing effective humanitarian assistance to the earthquake-affected regions. Continuous support and collaboration are deemed essential to meet both the urgent and long-term needs of affected individuals, enabling them to rebuild and strengthen their resilience against future challenges.
