KANDAHAR: Taliban officials in Kandahar have announced that 100 tons of dried figs worth $700,000 have been exported to India for the first time this year. Mohammad Hanif Haqmal, spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in Kandahar, stated that these exports were conducted via Iran. He said, “This year, 100 tons of dried figs have been exported from Kandahar to India, amounting to $700,000.” Meanwhile, Mohammad Khalid Zafaran, head of the Kandahar Farmers’ Union, noted that the successful completion of these exports is a result of coordinated efforts among the Kandahar governor, agricultural officials, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, and national traders. He added that in the future, exports of dried figs from Kandahar to European countries are expected to expand. Farmers in Kandahar are pleased with these exports, stating that such initiatives are beneficial for the economic stability of farmers and the promotion of agriculture. Farmers Mohammad Wali and Sardar mentioned, “These exports are a significant step for the economy of farmers. If these exports are expanded, our economy will stabilize.” “This is a very timely effort and action; we are pleased and request the government to continue developing such initiatives.” It is noteworthy that two weeks ago, 100 tons of dried figs were also exported from Kandahar to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The Department of Agriculture in Kandahar, along with the Chamber of Commerce and traders, is working collaboratively to initiate dried fig exports to European countries in the near future, alongside existing markets in India and Arab nations.
