KABUL: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has announced that nearly 2.3 million Afghan refugees have been expelled or returned from Iran and Pakistan this year and are now in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. The organization emphasized that the international community should not overlook Afghanistan under such circumstances. According to the UN, most of the returning Afghans have gone back to a country that is not prepared to accept them, with living conditions being extremely difficult. The current rulers of Afghanistan have also been accused of human rights violations. UN experts have previously warned that the forced return of these individuals could lead to numerous challenges, including a lack of shelter, poverty, unemployment, and educational and social restrictions. Meanwhile, the Pakistani government has announced that it will expel approximately one million Afghan refugees whose temporary residency cards have expired by September 1.
