KABUL: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced the public flogging of a man and a woman in Baghlan province for “illicit relations.” Each received 35 lashes and was sentenced to three months of suspended imprisonment. Additionally, another man and woman were flogged publicly in the Jaghto district of Ghazni on Thursday, August 30th, for “moral corruption.” They received 30 lashes each and were also sentenced to three months of suspended imprisonment. Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have repeatedly carried out public floggings and executed individuals in front of hundreds of spectators. International human rights organizations consider public executions and corporal punishment to be violations of international law and human dignity, calling for an end to such practices. This comes as the Taliban executed a man on Friday for alleged membership in opposition groups, hanging him in front of the public
