ANKARA: Emine Erdoğan, the First Lady of Turkey, sent a letter to Melania Trump, the wife of the U.S. President, urging her to raise her voice against the killing of children in Gaza. In her letter, she emphasized that the First Lady of the United States should call on the Israeli Prime Minister to put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Mrs. Erdoğan recalled having previously expressed her concerns about the fate of Ukrainian children in a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that it is now time to show the same sensitivity toward the suffering of Palestinian children. She wrote, “Gaza has become a graveyard for children. The term ‘unknown infant’ written on the shrouds of thousands of Gazan children leaves deep wounds in our conscience. We must unite our voices and strength against this injustice.” Praising Melania Trump’s stance on Ukrainian children, she urged her to extend this support to Palestinian children as well. Meanwhile, UN food security experts have warned that Gaza has officially entered a state of famine. According to the agency, over half a million people in Gaza are suffering from hunger, and the lives of 132,000 children are at serious risk of malnutrition. Emine Erdoğan is typically active on environmental and social issues, having previously written letters in 2016 supporting victims of the Syrian war and condemning Israeli actions in Gaza.
