KABUL: The United Nations’ classification system, used to determine food accessibility, has officially declared famine in Gaza. In a report, the organization stated that more than half a million Palestinians are facing a famine crisis, which includes hunger, poverty, and mortality. According to the UN-supported classification system, certain areas of Gaza are experiencing famine, and it is expected that this situation will worsen. The report further noted that “by June 2026, malnutrition threatens the lives of 132,000 children under five, including 41,000 severe cases.” Israel has restricted and blocked aid entry into Gaza during nearly two years of conflict. Israel’s Foreign Ministry has rejected the findings of the UN classification system, asserting that there is no famine in Gaza and that the conclusions are based on “Hamas lies.” It is important to note that hundreds of Palestinians have already lost their lives due to hunger and famine conditions in Gaza.
