HERAT: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has expressed its condolences to the families of the victims of the deadly traffic accident in Herat that resulted in the deaths of nearly 80 people. The accident occurred last night on the Herat-Islam Qala road when a 580-passenger bus, carrying returnees from Iran to Kabul, collided with a Mazda vehicle. Reports indicate that 79 people lost their lives, and three others were injured in the incident. After the collision, the passenger bus caught fire, and nearly all passengers were burned. Several other organizations have also expressed their sadness over this tragic traffic accident. Traffic incidents in the country have surged dramatically, attributed to factors such as driver negligence, poor road conditions, speeding, and the disregard for traffic regulations. Meanwhile, the Taliban government has repeatedly urged drivers to exercise caution during any journey and to prioritize the safety of passengers’ lives.
