KABUL: The Taliban’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi met with his Chinese counterparts Wang Yi, here in Kabul, according to a statement from the ministry today. According to the statement, the two sides discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, with Amir Khan Muttaqi emphasizing Afghanistan as a valuable trading partner. The Afghan Foreign Minister indicated that annual trade between Afghanistan and China is expected to reach one billion dollars. During the meeting, he also proposed enhancing economic cooperation through transportation partnerships, banking relations, and balancing trade. The statement noted that Wang Yi described the relations between the two countries as progressing. He mentioned that relevant institutions are working to increase Afghanistan’s exports to China. Wang Yi expressed China’s interest in officially including Afghanistan in the One Belt One Road Initiative and aimed to strengthen cooperation with Afghan institutions in the areas of mining exploration and extraction. He further stated that China intends to commence practical mining extraction this year.
