KABUL: Various protest movements, civil rights activists, and human rights defenders have urged the German government to facilitate the transfer of over 2,000 Afghan refugees who possess acceptance letters from the country. In an open letter addressed to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other officials, these activists emphasized the urgent need to address the situation of the refugees. The letter stated that Pakistani police have detained refugees awaiting transfer to Germany, with some being moved to a “biometric” camp and others deported back to Afghanistan. Civil rights activists have called on the governments of Germany and Pakistan to take action to prevent deportations and ensure the safety of the refugees. Previously, a group of human rights defenders in Germany reported that dozens of Afghan refugees awaiting transfer to Germany had been returned from Pakistan to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
