KHOST: Local sources in Khost have reported a concerning rise in youth suicides in the province. The most recent case involved a young man named Bilal, a resident of the Terizyo Alisher district, who reportedly took his own life using a firearm. This incident follows reports from the previous day of a 15-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy also committing suicide in the area. While the exact reasons for Bilal’s suicide remain unclear, local residents cite rising unemployment, economic difficulties, and a sense of hopelessness about the future as major contributing factors to these incidents. Suicide rates among youth in Afghanistan have significantly increased in recent years. Human rights organizations attribute this rise to unemployment, economic challenges, psychological pressures, and despair regarding the future. Meanwhile, the Taliban have imposed restrictions on media to prevent the dissemination of news about these incidents.
