KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. According to international media, Trump stated that the parties involved, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, are close to a ceasefire agreement. This agreement may involve ceding parts of Ukraine to Russia. In a conversation with reporters, Trump mentioned that an exchange of certain territories is possible. The Kremlin also confirmed the meeting and stated that both sides will focus on finding a sustainable solution to the Ukraine crisis. In a speech on Friday evening, Zelensky asserted that a ceasefire is achievable with sufficient pressure on Russia and that his team is in constant contact with the United States. Putin claims ownership of four regions: Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson, as well as Crimea. Russian forces do not fully control all of these areas. Reports have surfaced about a potential agreement to solidify Russian occupations, but Washington has labeled these reports as “speculation,” and Moscow has not responded.
