KABUL: The United Nations has once again expressed concern over the unprecedented return of Afghan refugees, labeling it a significant crisis for Afghanistan. A spokesperson from the UN-Habitat Afghanistan branch, Stephanie Louves, stated that this year, over 2 million Afghans have returned to their country, both forcibly and voluntarily, from neighboring nations. UN officials emphasized that the mass return of Afghans poses a severe challenge for the country. The remarks come amid reports that over one million Afghans have returned from Iran alone in the past three months, with hundreds also returning daily from Pakistan. While the policies of neighboring countries regarding Afghan refugees have drawn strong reactions from the UN and international rights organizations, Iranian and Pakistani officials have repeatedly insisted on the expulsion of all Afghans. On the other hand, the Taliban claims that it has managed the return process effectively and has addressed the initial challenges faced by the returning refugees.
