ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government has once again initiated the deportation of Afghan refugees. These individuals are being forcibly returned to Afghanistan after Pakistan did not extend the residency period for those holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards. Currently, over 1.4 million Afghan refugees with PoR cards are living in Pakistan, with the validity of these cards having expired in June. The decision to begin the deportation process was announced on Monday. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has condemned this decision, urging Pakistan to reconsider it. Additionally, Iran, another neighboring country of Afghanistan, has forcibly deported over two million Afghan refugees in recent months.
