KABUL: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has stated that Afghan mothers deserve support for breastfeeding their children anytime and anywhere. UNAMA made the remarks in celebration of “World Breastfeeding Week,” highlighting that UNICEF is proud to support mothers in Afghanistan and considers breastfeeding essential for a healthy future. The office noted that breastfed infants are protected from life-threatening diseases. World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from August 1 to 7. It is important to mention that mothers in Afghanistan face serious challenges due to limited access to healthcare services, lack of essential postnatal care, and high child mortality rates.
