KABUL: UN experts have presented a new report to the Security Council, stating that the Khorasan branch of ISIS is attracting extremist individuals in Afghanistan through social media. The experts declared that ISIS Khorasan poses the “most serious threat” to Europe and the United States. They indicated that the increasing return of foreign terrorists to Afghanistan and Central Asia aims to undermine regional security. The experts expressed concerns about the growing threat of ISIS against the United States and Europe, noting that several recent terrorist plots were largely influenced by the Gaza-Israel conflict or designed by individuals radicalized by ISIS. According to UN experts, the Khorasan branch of ISIS has issued warnings about potential attacks against Americans. However, a Taliban spokesperson has dismissed the UN report on the return of foreign terrorists to Afghanistan. Zabiullah Mujahid stated that no rogue groups are present in Afghanistan and that ISIS has been suppressed. U.S. officials have repeatedly warned that Afghanistan has become a safe haven for ISIS and poses a serious and growing threat to U.S. national security since the Taliban regained control.
