Tsunami warnings issued in Japan and the U.S. after powerful earthquake in Russia

MOSCOW: The Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far East of Russia was shaken today, Wednesday, by a powerful earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale. As a result of the earthquake, a coastal settlement in Russia’s Far East was severely affected, prompting tsunami warnings in coastal areas of both Japan and the United States, where residents have been urged to evacuate. According to the Associated Press, several people sustained injuries, and many residents have left the affected area. Aftershocks have also been felt following the initial quake.
