Syrian parliamentary elections to be held in September 2025

DAMASCUS: The Election Commission of Syria has announced that the parliamentary elections will be held in the coming September 2024. The Syrian state-run Sanaa news agency, Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, the head of the High Election Commission said that the parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place from September 15 to 20 of this year. He stated that one-third of the 210 members of the Syrian parliament will be appointed by Ahmad al-Sharaa, the head of the transitional government, while the remaining members will be elected by the people. It is expected that electoral colleges will be established in each province of Syria to facilitate the electoral process. This will be the first election following the overthrow of former President Bashar al-Assad’s government and the establishment of the government led by Ahmad al-Sharaa seven months ago.
