KABUL: The England women’s national football team clinched the Women’s Euro 2025 title with a 3-1 victory in a penalty shootout against Spain on Sunday night. The thrilling match took place at the “St. Jakob Park” stadium in Basel, Switzerland in which after a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time, the game went to penalties. Spain took the lead in the 25th minute with a goal from Maríaona Caldentey, however, in the second half, England’s head coach, Sarina Wiegman, made a decisive substitution, bringing in Chloe Kelly, who assisted Alessia Russo’s equalizing goal with a header in the 57th minute. Despite Spain dominating possession, England’s defense held firm, leading to the penalty shootout. In this crucial phase, England’s goalkeeper Hannah Hampton saved two vital penalties, while Chloe Kelly scored the final penalty, mirroring her heroics in the Euro 2022 final against Germany. This match also repeated the final of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, but Spain was unable to secure its first major tournament victory.
