PYONGYANG: Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, stated during a ceremony marking the anniversary of the end of the Korean War that the government and people of the country will achieve victory in their “anti-American” struggle. State media (KCNA) reported on Sunday, that Kim emphasized during a visit to a war museum in Pyongyang: “Our government and people will undoubtedly realize the great aspiration of building a prosperous country with a powerful army.” North Korea commemorates July 27 each year as “Victory Day,” coinciding with the signing of the armistice agreement in 1953 between North Korea, the United States, and China, which ended the Korean War. However, a formal peace agreement among the parties has yet to be achieved. In contrast, South Korea does not hold any special official ceremonies for this day. The recent statements from the North Korean leader come amid ongoing tensions between Pyongyang and Washington regarding military and nuclear issues.
