KABUL: The construction of the Kandahar-Herat railway has officially started in Nimroz Province, with the participation of Shaikh Mohammad Qasim “Khalid,” the Taliban governor of Nimroz, and some other officials from the Chamber of Commerce as well as local authorities. Qari Rahimullah “Sajid,” the spokesperson for the Taliban in Nimroz, stated in a statement that the governor considers this project vital for the country, noting that transporting goods via railway will be faster and cheaper compared to road transport. The governor emphasized that the completion of the project will reduce trade costs and increase profits for traders and producers. Khalid also mentioned that this project will not only facilitate exports and imports but will also create numerous job opportunities for the people of Nimroz, turning the province into a strategic point in the region. He stressed that connecting Afghanistan to neighboring countries through the railway will pave the way for expanding international trade and make the export of domestic products and import of foreign goods easier.
