KABUL: Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has announced that he has been invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping to make an official visit to China, which may take place soon. Trump stated on Tuesday to reporters at the White House, “We will likely do this in the not-too-distant future.” Reuters reports that aides to both Trump and Xi have discussed a potential meeting between the two leaders, which could occur during Trump’s upcoming trip to Asia. Trump’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in U.S.-China relations over the past six months, particularly concerning trade and economic issues. He has accused China of failing to control the production and trafficking of fentanyl to the U.S., leading to significant tariffs imposed on Chinese imports. From January to the end of April, tariffs reached 145%, but after negotiations in Geneva in May, they were reduced to 30%. In response, China initially raised tariffs to 145% but later lowered them to 10% following an agreement. The Geneva agreement is valid for 90 days, and the continuation of cooperation depends on the implementation of this agreement.
