KABUL: Richard Lindsay, the UK’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, has arrived in Kabul and urged the Taliban to respect human rights. In a statement, he called on the Taliban to initiate broad discussions with all Afghans. During this visit, Lindsay addressed issues related to human rights, Afghan returnees, the Taliban’s general amnesty, and the Doha process. He expressed concern about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the challenges faced by returning Afghans from Iran and Pakistan. “I have clearly articulated the UK’s concerns and position regarding the treatment of women and girls by the Taliban,” he stated. Lindsay noted that the situation in Afghanistan could improve if all parties participate in a UN-led political process. The UK has emphasized its commitment to supporting Afghans through the appointment of its new representative. Previously, the UK announced plans to support 1.7 million malnourished children across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan.
